Super Falcons’ coach, Edwin Okon has assured that his girls are ready
to take on Mali when they meet this weekend in an Olympic qualifier.
Okon, who said the team had been working night and day to perfect
their strategies, disclosed that the energy was strong and that the team
was mentally ready to beat Mali again.
“Our camp is bubbling with sweetness. You can see that preparations
are high; we are not sleeping and we cannot sleep. We just have to work
to make sure that we beat Mali well here so that when we get to their
turf we won’t have to do too much work there. We are mentally,
tactically and physically ready,” said Okon.
Similarly, Assistant Coach of the team, Justine Madugu added that
Falcons were not going to leave anything to chance and were working on
every department of the team.
“We are working on all departments of the team. The fact that it is a
knock out competition (both home and away) means we need to take
advantage of our playing at home first to score as many goals as
possible so that the second leg will be much more comfortable for us. We
will also not take it for granted that we beat them silly (8-0) in the
All Africa Games (AAG) qualifiers. We are working hard to perfect lapses
noticed in the AAG qualifiers and to improve on them. So we are not
taking anything to chance” concluded Madugu.
The first leg of the encounter is scheduled for May 9 at the Abuja National Stadium.
