Expdonaloaded News; Army dismisses soldier over armed robbery

Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Kenneth Minimah
Nigerian Army said it has dismissed the soldier who allegedly snatched N250,000 from a civilian in Aba area of Abia State. The 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the unit where the soldier was serving, said in a statement that the soldier was tried under the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 and consequently dismissed.A statement from the spokesman for the Brigade, Captain Sydney Mbaneme said from the investigations conducted, the soldier was granted pass to travel to Benin in Edo State to see his family.

“It was, however, established that rather than proceed to Benin, the soldier proceeded to Aba, wearing the Nigerian Army camouflage uniform, which contravenes Nigerian Army’s standing instruction in respect of the use of uniforms when not on official duty.
“Consequently, the soldier was charged, tried, found guilty and subsequently dismissed from service in line with the provision of the Armed Forces Act Caps A20. Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”
The 14 Brigade in the statement said the soldier has been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further necessary action.
An earlier statement from the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army said it frowned greatly on the action of Lance Corporal Itugbu Augustine Omorodion, who was arrested by the Nigeria Police personnel in Aba, Abia State for alleged robbery.
The statement signed by the spokesman of the Brigade, Captain Mbaneme said: “The Brigade condemns the alleged action of the soldier in its entirety, noting that it is wrong for a personnel, who has the constitutional powers of protecting the citizenry to turn against them.
“The brigade views the conduct of the soldier as a serious offence and passionately urged the public not to allow the action of the soldier to affect their earlier impression considering the track records the army has established over the years with regards to the overall security of Aba and Abia State at large.”post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com..
The soldier attached to the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Abia State, was a fortnight ago arrested by police in Aba for allegedly robbing a 21-year-old boy.
Omorodion was alleged to have attacked his victim, who was identified as Ebuka, with a dagger and robbed him of N250,000 which he was going to deposit for his boss in one of the commercial banks along Faulks Road area of the city. It was gathered that the victim after being robbed, raised the alarm, which attracted passers-by, who alerted men of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) on patrol in the area.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abia State Command, Onyeke Udeviotu Ezekiel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who confirmed the incident, said the matter had been transferred to the Aba Police Area Command for further investigation, adding that the authorities of the 14 Brigade had also been notified about the incident.
