
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, Corps Commander Hyinus Uche Omeje, disclosed this yesterday during an interview with Daily Sun on the activities of his command in the first quarter of the year.
The motorists, he said, were apprehended for 17,584 traffic offences committed between January and March this year.
The most prevalent traffic offence committed during the period, according to him, was Tyre Violation (TYV), which 3,805 were said to be involved, followed by Seatbelt Use Violation (SUV) for which 3,500 persons were arrested.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com
He disclosed that 78 cases of road crashes involving 545 people claimed 25 lives during the period.
Sixteen of the road crashes, he said, were fatal, 46 were serious, while the remaining 16 were minor accidents. Going by the report, 5,023 people were arrested in January for 5,652 offences, in which Tyre Violation (TYV) was the most prevalent.
The report showed that 4,994 traffic offenders were arrested in February for 5,794 offences, of which Seatbelt Use Violation (SUV) was the most prevalent.
Omeje added that in March, 5,403 traffic offenders were nabbed across the state for 6,138 offences. The offenders have been made to pay the penalties for offences committed, in accordance with traffic rules.
