Seven persons have died in Kano State following the collapse of the slab of a pedestrian bridge, which is under construction in the metropolitan area of the state capital.
- The accident occurred at about 6pm Sunday evening on a pedestrian bridge located at Karhen Waya, on Sheik Jafar Express Road in the Dorayi area
- of the state.
The said Shiek Jafar Express Road is one of the road networks being constructed by the Kwankwaso administration.
Kano State Police Public Relations officer, ASP Magaji Magiya confirmed the tragedy and disclosed that the accident affected a tricycle and a Gulf vehicle.
He told Expdonaloaded that all the victims were immediately rushed to the hospital while confirming the death of seven of them.
According to his account, the driver of tricycle and the Gulf vehicle had defied the stop sign mounted by the construction company, which was working on the pedestrian bridge.
“The tricycle was the first to zoom through once the driver saw what looks like an opportunity to drive past bridge, the driver of the Gulf vehicle decided to take the same risk when he saw that the tricycle had driven his vehicle. Unfortunately the slab fell down and smashed them, the driver and six others” he stated
