The protracted crisis over, who becomes the next Ogoga of Ikere-
Ekiti, a community in Ekiti State, has taken a new turn as aggrieved
royal families opposed to the emergence of one Jimi Adu as Ogoga-elect
yesterday staged a peaceful protest in the town. The protesters called
on Governor Ayodele Fayose to order a fresh process for the selection of
a new traditional ruler in the area.The families described as needless, the ongoing tussle for the Ogoga traditional stool in the kingdom, describing the selection of Adu by some kingmakers as a flagrant breach of trust and tradition of the town.
The families, comprising Ogbenuote and Agabaola princes and princesses, maintained that Adu’s emergence was against the state chieftaincy law and their tradition, which places high premium on Ifa consultation to select an oba.
