Curiously and most worrisomely, on the 29th of May, 2015 supporters and fans of the newly sworn in Governor, who ordinarily were supposed to be celebrating, but got entangled by "old lifestyle", forget about their "supposed mood" and went into the streets assaulting and maiming innocent citizens. Three persons were allegedly kill around the Old Port Harcourt Township area, two persons received machete cuts on the head at Rumigbo, including the Chairman of Rumuigbo Town Council. At the Rumuepirikom, hometown of Chief Nyesom Wike, three drivers where assaulted and their cars damaged for allegedly "driving pass" some youths celebrating on a major road (Ikwerre Road).
Just six hours ago; there was an assassination attempt on the life of Mr. HENRY HALLIDAY, the immediate past Chief of Protocol Govt House PH, who served in Gov. Amaechi's administration. Fortunately, the Assailants were caught and taken to a police station. The Assailants allegedly named a very prominent PDP chieftain from ONELGA who was a member of the Rivers State House Assembly during Dr. Peter Odili's tenure as their procurer. It is on record that ONELGA is one of the most volatile LGAs in the state and the militia are said to enjoy high level patronage from politicians from the area.
On 1st of June, a mobile policeman was killed around the popularly know Agip Junction by escaping rubbers. This was right at the heart of the city and the Governor's immediate clan.
Yesterday, the Rhythm 93.7FM PH on-air personality, writer and motivational speaker, Iphie Aggrey-Fynn was shot dead by kidnappers along Aba-Port Harcourt expressway The Ghanaian-born OAP and blogger had gone to see her parents in Aba and was on her way back to Port Harcourt when the car she was in was attacked by kidnappers around the Eleme junction. As the driver of the car attempted to speed away, the gunmen open fire on the car, killing Ifeoma.
Today, a band of rubbers were said to have attempted to rub Skye Bank on Olu Obasanjo Road in Port Harcourt. The dare devil rubbers were however foiled by a combined team of mobile policemen attached to Access Bank, UBA and few others located on the street.
Moments ago, few minutes pass 7.00pm this night, it was reported that a team of armed robbers stormed Wimpy Junction (Rumuepirikom), the hometown of the Governor and began to indiscriminately rub cars and passers by.
I feel pity for Rivers State. I call on the authorities to intervene and save Rivers State from collapse. Reports have it that staff of multinationals now fly from Lagos State and Abuja into Port Harcourt for daily routine, a situation that the administration of Gov. Amaechi had put under control. This was the same situation under Gov. Peter Odili and Sir Celestine Omehia before the Amaechi's administration took over in 2007. Incidentally, the same musketeers are back to power.
Security is degenerating in Port Harcourt and too fast. President Mohammadu Buhari and IGP must save Rivers State now.
