THE University of Lagos, Akoka has been shut indefinitely over protests by students, who were angered by the death of a third year student, by name Oluchi Anekwe. The deceased was electrocuted on Tuesday night at the campus. In a protest that ensued, students blocked the entrance into the campus and demanded that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rahman Bello should address the issue.
The VC reportedly refused. In a statement, the President of the Students Union Government (SUG), Abiodun Martins, stated that the demise of the lady could have been avoided. He said: “The University of Lagos Students’ Union, regrets to announce the passing away of the 300 level student of the Department of Accounting and till her death, she was a first class student, and a very active student in class, and also our condolence goes to her family, relatives and friends.”
