Two students of the Edo State College of Agriculture, Iguoriakhi in
Ovia South-West Local Government Area were yesterday shot dead by
gunmen.
The students were reportedly ambushed on their way to the lecture hall in the morning.
Following the incident, their colleagues barricaded the
Benin-Iguobazuwa Road yesterday in protest, even as the institution is
said to have postponed by one week, the semester’s examination scheduled
to commence this week.
It took the intervention of policemen from Iguobazuwa station to bring the situation under control.
The Provost, Dr. Friday Obasogie, said the students were on their way
to school when they were ambushed and killed by the gunmen.
“As I speak with you, I am with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO)
in Iguobazuwa, the two students lived in the community. They were going
to school. The perpetrators ran out of the bush, attacked them and ran
back to the bush.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com
“It is a cult clash, you know that it has been in Benin for over a
week now. The police have brought the situation under control. The
semester’s examination has been postponed by one week to enable the
tension die down”, he said.
Confirming the incident, the state police command’s spokesman, Mr
Stephen Onwochei, Deputy Superrintendent, said the police have
commenced investigation, assuring that those behind the killing would
never escape justice, as a manhunt had been launched.
