wikeThe controversy surrounding  the appointment of Chief Judge of Rivers State, surprisingly came to an abrupt end yesterday,  when Governor Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike, appointed Justice Daisy Okocha, as the acting chief judge, few minutes after he was sworn in.
The governor also appointed Justice Christy Gabriel-Nwankwo, another female, as the acting president of the state Customary Court of Appeal, since the former president, Justice Peter Agumagu, is still serving his  suspension  by the National Judicial Council (NJC).He made the pronouncements yesterday in his inaugural speech, shortly after  he  and  Dr (Mrs.)Ipalibo  Harry-Banigo ,were sworn in as governor  and deputy governor, respectively, by the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Kate Abiri, at  the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt.Governor  Wike, who    an oath of office at about 10:53am,  said,  he would  reopen  the 8th Assembly of the State House of Assembly,  which  had been  under  lock and key  since July 9, 2013, following  the crisis that engulfed the  hallowed  chambers. post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com.. According  to  him, the  House of Assembly,  which was  relocated to the old Government  House, would  be  taken  to  its proper location on Monday, June1,  for the lawmakers to start their function. According to the governor,  Justices  Okocha and Gabriel-Nwankwo would resume duties the same June1, while the courts, which  have not been functioning would be opened for lawyers, the same day.The Governor, who came hard on the administration his predecessor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike  Rotimi  Amaechi  told  the unprecedented  crowd  that he had reclaimed  and restored Rivers  State  to the path of sanity, describing his emergence as,  a  new day in  the history of the “Treasure Base of the Nation.”
