A supervisor with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has
become one of the latest casualties of the Agatu communal clashes as he
was killed last Monday on his way to Ayila village to conduct WAEC
examinations.
Recall that crisis had been raging between Egba and Ologba
Communities in Agatu since last Friday in which 45 people have been
feared killed.
Expdonaloaded.blogspot.com gathered that the deceased, an indigene of Ogwule-Kaduna
was said to have been killed by youths of one of the warring communities
who mistook him to be an enemy.
The killing of the supervisor on Monday has sent jitters in the
hearts of candidates and supervisors who have now chosen to stay in
their homes in war-torn Agatu Local Government Area for fear of becoming
the next victims.
Speaking in a telephone chat with newsmen in Makurdi, representative
of Agatu in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Sule Audu said the crisis
has prevented prospective candidates and supervisors from going for the
examination while the deceased, he said was kidnapped at the
crisis-ridden Egba-Ologba area and killed but said he could not confirm
his killers.
“I will not be able say who killed him, whether it was Egba or Ologba
people because I was not there. The place, based on the report I
received from the police and local government chairman is a war zone and
anybody that passes there could be a casualty. He should taken an
alternative route instead of that war zone route.”
Audu who noted some villagers said he was killed between Egba and
Ologba while others said he was killed between Obagaji and Ologba
however disclosed that a meeting had been convened at Oshigbudu today to
enable stakeholders meet to resolve the crisis.
He appealed to the community and youth leaders of Ogwule-Kaduna to
remain calm and refrain from taking laws into their hands pointing out
that security agencies were already working round the clock to unravel
the killers of their kinsman...post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com
When contacted, state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP
Austin Ezeani said the Area Commander in Otukpo, Samuel Drakoji
confirmed a case of a missing WAEC supervisor in Agatu but could not
confirm whether the man was killed as there was no blood stain where his
footwear was found.
Ezeani also said the police is still combing the bush in the area
searching for his body as there was no evidence that he was killed.
“They are still searching for his body. They only saw his footwear so
they are still combing the bush to find out if he was killed and dumped
in the bush or whether he was abducted,” Ezeani stated.
Efforts to get the identity of the deceased at the WAEC office in
Makurdi failed as the officer in charge of the WAEC office in Makurdi
was said to have travelled on official duty to Enugu.
However, one Mr. Adebisi, a staff from WAEC office in Lagos described
the incident as pathetic and said the Council was yet to receive any
official report from the area.
“Yes, we heard about it unofficially and we are very saddened by the
news. We heard verbally that the man was killed in Agatu but we have not
got details of the issue yet. However, examinations are going on in
Agatu.
