Military has turned tide against Boko Haram – FG

FGN2Minister of State for Defence, Colonel Augustine Akobundu,(rtd),yesterday commended the Army for the successes recorded in the war against insurgents in the North-East.
The minister who disclosed this during his familiarization visit to the Army headquarters in Abuja, noted that even though the successes came with a lot of challenges, the Army has remained resolute to wipe out Boko Haram terrorists.

He said: “In the face of daunting challenges, very grave challenges with deficient armament holding, you upturned the balance against the insurgents. It is heartwarming to note that you brought resourcefulness; innovations to match the political will that the President exhibited in making sure that you turn the tide against the insurgents.
“As we speak today, I am aware that you just have one major objective to deal with and this country will be cleared of all forms of insurgency. I know it has not been easy; in the process you have lost so many officers and men; families have been rendered fatherless. It is painful they paid the supreme price,’’ he said.
He called for a minute silence in honour of officers and men who died fighting the terrorists, and charged the Army to continue to subject itself to constituted authorities...post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com
Responding, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-General Kenneth Minimah, while saying that apart from the Sambisa forest, troops had liberated virtually all territories hitherto seized by the terrorists in the North-East, noted that “the victory did not come cheap as it came with blood and loss of lives’’.
He described the battle to defeat the insurgents as “social media war’’, saying that whatever happened in the North-East was well known across the world.
He said the six weeks extension granted for the just concluded elections enabled the army to reclaim lost territories.
