President Goodluck Jonathan met with security chiefs yesterday ahead of the May 29 hand-over date.
The Security Council was said to have discussed the hand-over as well
as the tidying up of the ongoing war against terror in the country.
Those in attendance were Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal
Alex Badeh; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah; Chief
of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin; and Chief of Air Staff, Air
Marshal Adesola Amosu.
The Director General of State Security Service, Ekpeyong Ita, and the
Director General of National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, were also at

The meeting was the first after the elections. The council was said
to have briefed the president on the strategies for a smooth transition
on May 29 and issues bordering on the milage of the war against
terrorism in the North-East of the country. The service chiefs,
alongside other heads of
Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs), had been ordered by
the president to turn in their hand-over notes before April 20 to ensure
early preparation of the president’s final hand-over note to the
incoming administration.
Other issues discussed during the closed-door meeting included the
handling of security prior, during and after the March 28 and April 11
elections.
