Osaze Odemwingie’s return to action after being in limbo for about
eight months following a career threatening injury has been described as
good news for Nigerian football.
Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Chief Felix
Anyansi-Agwu who could not hide his delight over the cheering news said
the experience of the Stoke City of England forward would be vital
when the Super Eagles begin the campaign for a ticket to the 2017 Africa
Cup of Nations.
The speedy forward suffered a knee ligament injury during his club,
Stoke City’s famous 1-0 defeat of champions Manchester City in the
English Premiership in August last year, and has been out since.expdonaloaded.blogspot.com
“I am very happy for Osaze (Odemwingie) because an athlete always
wants to be out there doing his thing. You cannot imagine what he would
have gone through in those months out on the treatment table.
“It is also good news for Nigeria because he has been huge for us on
several occasions and his experience is still needed in the Super
Eagles,” Anyansi said.
Osaze scored one of Nigeria’s three goals at the 2014 FIFA World Cup
finals – the key strike against Bosnia-Herzegovina that ultimately took
the Super Eagles to the Round of 16.
He was an alternate player in the Nigerian squad at the 2002 FIFA
World Cup finals in Korea and Japan, and played at the 2010 and 2014
FIFA World Cup finals. He has also played in four Africa Cup of Nations
finals.
