A legal icon and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado -Ekiti
(ABUAD), Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), has warned politicians against
playing politics with the Boko Haram insurgency, saying that the
frequency of attacks should not be underestimated.
Speaking with Daily Sun in his Ado-Ekiti office, the octogenarian said voters should as well take security challenges into consideration during presidential election on March 28.
The legal luminary insisted that the anti-terror war should not be made an issue that one political party will be blaming another for, pointing out that one party should not claim to have the ability to solve the problem without the support of others.
His words: “I think it is the duty of all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliations to jointly tackle this menace., If we continue to blame one party or the other for the terrorism that is going on today, it would not help us as a nation.”
On the need to consider the issue of security when voting in the coming elections, he said having a secured nation that will attract more foreign investors and allow a conducive environment for businesses to grow requires voting for the right leader, who will tackle insecurity headlong.
He said: “When as a nation we are considering choosing the next president of this country, we should take as priority our peace, and safety of lives and property. In other words, we have to consider the issue of insecurity, terrorism, kidnapping and other similar criminal activities very seriously.
“Unless we have security of lives and property, there can be no development. There will be no investment. And no foreigner will want to come to a country where they know or they believe, rightly or wrongly, that lives and property are not safe,” he said.
