Cholera kills 20 in Rivers

Nigeria's Minister of Health Onyebuchi Chukwu addresses diplomatic envoys on the status of the Ebola disease control in Nigeria at the Foreign Affairs House in AbujaAt least 20 persons have been report­ed dead following the outbreak of cholera in Andoni Local Government Area of Riv­ers State, where 171 cases have been recorded. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, disclosed this in a statement he issued in Port Harcourt.

Parker, in the statement, said the local government area rapid response team and the state emergency response team responded swiftly.
The state emergency re­sponse team and the social mobilization team, he said, were on ground to contain the outbreak.
The commissioner stated that government had estab­lished two treatment centres in Ebukuma and Okoli’ile to handle reported cases, advis­ing affected persons to access the facilities.
Parker urged members of the public to remain calm, as situation was under control, adding that steps had been taken to provide potable wa­ter in the affected communi­ties.
