120 APC members sign for Jonathan’s impeachment

tambuwa APCNo fewer than 120 House of Representatives members may have signed to commence impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan. The lawmakers are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A member of the APC caucus, who pleaded for anonymity, said more lawmakers had indicated interest to append their signatures in the register opened for those who wanted President Jonathan impeached.
But the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Leo Ogor, said the project would fail on arrival. He told newsmen that the president had not violated any rule to deserve impeachment.
“The president is unaware of what happened today. So, bringing it (impeachment) up, it is going to be defeated. The president has done no wrong, impeachment should not even be part of the issue,” he said.
Ogor urged members to jettison such plans, arguing that the notice of impeachment was inconsequential, as the president had no hand in what transpired at the National Assembly.
Also reacting, the Chairman of House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mohammed Zakari, said: “The notice of impeachment was not on the order paper today (yesterday), but it will not be strange if it comes up in the future.”
