Many are called but few are chosen. That has been my dilemma since the
Senate President Bukola Saraki unveiled, last week Tuesday, the list of
ministerial nominees sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari. As you are aware, the screening, the Senate screening that is, starts
today but my own screening started since last week after the names were
announced but a week later I am still not done with it.
The President
did not make my job easier by his failure to attach portfolios to the
names of the nominees. That leaves some room for unnecessary guesswork.
That leaves you wondering how the Senate is going to screen the nominees
if there are no offices attached to their names. How would they assess
their suitability? Or, competence?
My dilemma? Since last week Tuesday I have been wracking my brain,
trying to find out who among the twenty-one names released so far can
make a good Minister of Education. I want you to take another look at
the nominees. As the Senate commences their screening today, pray, which
one of them do you think will make a good Minister of Education and
help bring about the much-desired change we need in our education
sector?
Those on the list are: Babatunde Fashola (former governor of Lagos
State), Rotimi Amaechi (former governor of Rivers State, Kayode Fayemi
(former governor of Ekiti State, Chris Ngige (former governor of Anambra
State), APC National Publicity Secretary. Lai Mohammed, Senator Udo
Udoma Udo, Abubakar Salami SAN, Ogbonnaya Onu, Aisha Alhassan,
Abdulrahman Dambazzau, Kemi Adeosun, Adebayo Shittu, Solomon Dalong,
Audu Ogbeh, Amina Ibrahim, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Suleiman Adamu,
Ibrahim Usman Jubril.
