IN its bid to rid Imo State of child trafficking,
the State police command has arrested another syndicate of women
involved in sourcing and the sale of newly born babies.Parading the suspects yesterday, at the command headquarters, the
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, disclosed that
on September 13, 2015, operatives of the Command, acting on a tip-of,
arrested one Chizoba (25) from Umuaka community in Njaba Council Area
of the State, who had given birth to a baby boy on June 19, at Onyebuchi
Maternity Clinic, Umuhu Okabia in Orsu Council Area of the State.
According to the Police boss, shortly after giving birth, Chizoba
conspired with one Ijeoma Eboka (42) and Lovelene Okereke (33) and
allegedly sold the baby to one Chinwe Chukwuka (46) at N750, 000, while
N200, 000 was given to the mother of the child.
Meanwhile, the three months old baby identified as Chijioke, has been recovered and handed over to his mother.
The Commissioner of Police has warned that the State command would
not tolerate any form of criminality in the state, stressing that
offenders should be prepared to face the wrath of the law.
