Expdonaloaded News; Ex-minister backs Buhari on DSS boss 0

dss
Former Minister of State for Education and Delta State chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, has  said that President Muhammadu Buhari was right to have appointed Mr Lawal Daura as the Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS).
He advised those criticizing  Buhari over the appointment of the new DSS boss, to  learn from history.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Lagos,  at the weekend, Gbagi said if  the President , who made the appointment was comfortable with his action, people should not  raise dust  over it.  He said Buhari has done nothing wrong by appointing a man, who left the service voluntarily, even while some of his mates are still in service,  to head the security agency.

“Nigeria has become so distrustful that you need somebody you can trust in middle of a deceitful country like ours. So, the issue of appointing anybody into the office of Director General of DSS, is the prerogative of the president.”
We have antecedent all over the world, that the office is sacrosanct to the heart  of the man, who is sitting in the office”, he said.
The former minister recalled that in the past, former presidents in the country had appointed those they feel comfortable with, as security chiefs.
He said: “(Aliyu) Gusau was the National Security Adviser (NSA), when he was removed by a coup. He was retired. When there was a counter-coup, he was brought back and he rose to become a Lieutenant General and later, became the Chief of Army Staff and he continued. When he left, he became National Security Adviser.”
“Former Director General of SSS was dismissed for plotting a coup in the Nigerian Army as a Lieutenant Colonel. Are was brought back by Obasanjo. He (Are) is like his own (Obasnjo’s) son in the house. Are was brought back and he became Director General of SSS.                                                                                                    “When he left as DG of SSS, they appointed Lieutenant General Azazi. Azazi became the Director of Military Intelligence, he became National Security Adviser because President Jonathan believes he is from the same town with him.           “Azazi was just as close to President Jonathan, as Daura is closer to President Buhari. Azazi became the head of security and every major appointment that was done in all the services was directed by him.”
