Illyasu Abbah new MNJTF
The Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Tukur Buratai, has charged the new commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major-General Illyasu Abbah, to do everything humanly possible to rescue the kidnapped Chibok girls alive.Gen. Buratai, has equally charged the commander to liberate all lost territories and captives from the terrorists, assist humanitarian organisations and bring the reign of insurgency in the lake Chad region to an end in the shortest possible time.

Buratai, who gave the charge while handing over the mantle of leadership of the MNJTF, to his successor at the army headquarters yesterday in Abuja, promised the support of the army authorities to ensure the success of the operation.
The army chief while noting that the activities of the insurgents was more on the Nigerian territories, charged the commander to apply diplomacy and patience in his day to day activities and carry the troops along.
Gen. Buratai, while lamenting that the activities of the insurgents would have ended long before now if neighboring countries where the insurgents run to take refuge each time they struck in Nigeria, had agreed to collaborate with the country, said the reorganization of the task force and the relocation of its headquarters to Njamena, became necessary to prevent the terrorists from consuming the lake Chad continent with their activities.
He told the commander that most of the logistics and manpower needed for the operation were already on ground to ensure the success of the operation even as he wished him well in his new assignment.
He announced the establishment of an operational unit at the army headquarters to monitor the activities of the task force.
Responding, Gen. Abbah, while assuring that the activities of the terrorists would soon come to an end said “I need just three basic things which are capacity building, robust intelligence, logistics, proper back up and administration. If we have all these and we hit the ground running, the rest will be history”.
