Expdonaloaded News; Scarcity: DPR to delist fraudulent marketers from petroleum subsidy scheme

Tankers in Kirikiri
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has threatened to delist the names of fraudulent petroleum marketers selling petrol above the regulated pump price of N87 per litre from further participation in the Petroleum Support Fund (PSF). The warning was handed down in Lagos yesterday by the Acting Director of DPR, Mr. Danteni Baba Ladan, during a meeting with officials of Depot Products and Petroleum Marketers Association (DAPPMA), Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
Ladan disclosed that despite several warnings issued to marketers to desist from selling above ex-depot price, which in turn translates to higher pump prices, some marketers have consistently flouted government’s directive. He stated that this trend remained unacceptable given that marketers with whom DPR has constantly interacted have benefitted from PSF, which has enabled marketers to operate their businesses at a level that should guarantee constant and uninterrupted supply of products. ‘‘This meeting is therefore convened to reiterate the resolve of DPR to ensure that henceforth, it would not allow a situation whereby supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) is dictated by the private interests of marketers and dealers to the detriment of the Nigerian public, neither will the department condone any act of selling PMS above official pump price in government licenced facilities under any guise whatsoever,’’ he said.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com.. The Acting Director who was represented by the Head, Downstream, Mr. Alphonsus Mudei, however, called on those still engaging in the practice of selling PMS and kerosene above the government stipulated prices or who engage in acts of hoarding petroleum products, to desist from such in the interest of the public, the economy and the petroleum business. He threatened to withdraw licence of any facility that flouts the latest directive from DPR, adding that further sanction could equally lead to the closure of depots and retail outlets for a period of up to 90 days. Responding, the Zonal Vice Chairman, IPMAN Western Zone, Mr. Kunle Bamigboye, exonorated the association from any form of sharp practices, insisting that petroleum products were in short supply, hence depot owners have raised their ex-depot prices. ‘‘There is no way we can sell products at the regulated prices because NNPC is battling with shortage of products. As I speak to you, only NNPC Mosimi is supplying products. Even at that, they are rationing. As at Tuesday, they were only able to load 16 trucks out of 600.That is to tell you what we are battling with,’’ he lamented. He assured that IPMAN would do all it can to carry out DPR directives at all times, saying the situation at hand was beyond marketers, hence the need for understanding from all concerned.
