Tell us about your background?
I’m a British-Nigerian music artiste from Delta State, Sapele. I was born in West London. In-between studying and obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree, I’ve been to Nigeria a lot of times.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently in Nigeria promoting my debut single entitled One For Me. I’m working on new music and getting prepared for the release of my new single as well.
Let’s talk about your single, how is it doing?
One For Me was produced by British – Sierra Leonean producer, Delerious, and written by me. The song was created based on a true life experience.
How is the acceptance?
I’m extremely grateful with the love and support that my debut single is generating on the airwaves. It’s enjoying heavy rotation from Nigerian radio stations and many other radio stations around the world. Also, I have been getting a lot of love from my fans online.
How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Growing up, my household was full of music. My mother always played African inspired music and took me to traditional African parties. My brothers and sisters were also huge lovers of music and played various genres ranging from hip hop, R&B, classical music to Afro beat. This allowed me to be more versatile and unique and that’s how I started writing much more inspired Afrobeats music. Life’s experiences and travelling also helped broaden my horizon and played a big part in inspiring my song writing skills.
Can you describe your style of music?
My style of music is a hybrid of African and British cultural influences. My sound pays homage to my African heritage and London upbringing blending it in English, Pidgin English, Urhobo and Yoruba languages.
Which top artistes would you want to feature in your music?
I would love to work with so many great artistes and up-and-coming talents. The list is endless so if you’re reading this, contact me, let’s work. Also, I’ve got a top artiste from Nigeria who’ll be on my EP which I’m currently working on. So keep your eyes peeled for that because it’s coming soon.
From Yemi Alade to Cynthia Morgan, the industry is saturated with talented acts. How do you hope to make a break?
I’m not competing with anyone; I’m just focusing on doing what I do best and being a better version of myself. I respect and admire all the great amazing female artistes out there and I believe we’re all queens in our own leagues chasing our dreams.
What record label are you working under?
I’m currently unsigned but working with Team Ubi for now.
Were your parents supportive of your music career?
My parents were very supportive. My dad would come along with me and watch my shows in London, Manchester, Liverpool and even in Nigeria. My mum is also very supportive.
Did anyone close to you try to discourage?
I would not say they discouraged me. What they did was to make me more aware of the struggles that one could face in the music industry. However, they told me to keep going regardless. And besides, the importance of education was instilled in me as a kid.
