Former governor of Abia State and national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, yesterday admonished Ndigbo to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, stressing that they will be prime beneficiaries of government’s policies. He said the APC government was focused on fulfilling its campaign promises, assuring that insecurity, corruption and other ills, plaguing the country were being addressed.
Onu spoke when a five-man delegation of the caretaker committee of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Chief Chief Ben Orabusi, paid him a courtesy visit. The delegation came to brief the APC stalwart about the forthcoming World Igbo Conference being planned by the Chief Raph Obioha-led body. Emphasizing the gains that await Ndigbo and Nigerians for electing APC into government, Onu said the incumbent administration was giving everything to reinvent the country, which he said, had suffered years of maladministration. He stressed that the Buhari administration would do what is right and good to Nigerians irrespective of party affiliation. Counselling Ndigbo on the political decision and step they must take at the moment, the APC chieftain urged them to embrace the party and support Buhari administration. He praised them for identifying with the party during the last election, recalling that the Igbo overwhelmingly supported the party, which made the victory of APC possible. He said: “Ohanaeze must be commended for what it is doing as regards the welfare of the Igbo throughout the country and beyond. We have Igbo everywhere; there is no town in Nigeria where there are no Igbo. In Nigeria and across the world, there is no place, where we don’t have Igbo and the Igbo occupy a very important position in the country. “We as Igbo are the only major ethnic group that is not indigenous to any other countries in the world, so you look at ethnic groups that are indigenous in Nigeria, what that means is that outside the country, there is no other country for the Igbo. For other major ethnic groups this is not the case.” He insisted that President Buhari would work for all Nigerians, allaying fears of possible neglect of the South-East by the APC administration. Explaining their mission, leader of the delegation and chairman of the interim planning committee of World Igbo Conference, Chief Aranusi, said for a long time, Ndigbo seemed not to know their place in the scheme of things. He contended that there was need for the people to sit down and talk among themselves.
