NIKE sponsorship deal: NASS to summon NFF on contract detail

NFF-President-Amaju-PinnickThe last may not have been heard on the new sponsorship deal the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), signed with an international kit manufacturers Nike, as the House of Representative Committee on Sports has revealed that it will soon summon the federation to explain the full detail of the deal to Nigerians.
Chairman Reps Sports Committee, Hon Godfrey Ali Gaiya, who made the disclosure in a telephone chat with SoccerStar yesterday said as part of his committee’s oversight function, they were only waiting for the eggheads of the federation to return to Nigeria after finalising the deal to face his committee.

While giving further breakdown of what his committee would demand from the federation, the Reps Sports Committee boss, noted that among others, the federation would need to tell Nigerians the value of the deal, the duration and how they intend to use the financial worth to augment the shortfalls in their 2015 budget proposal.
Asked if the committee will likely summon the federation, Hon Gaiya replied: “We will definitely summon them if they return from signing the contract because we will need to know precisely the value of the contract or sponsorship deal.
“We need to also know how valid is the contract, the full detail of the beneficiaries and see what they have now in comparison with their budgetary allocation for 2015. “Essentially, we will need to know what impact the value of the sponsorship will have on the overall allocation. Don’t forget that sponsorship deal is part of the revenues of NFF.
“Therefore, ideally, it behooves on the National Assembly to tract down every kobo that comes into the coffers of the football federation. It is part of our oversight function to know the exact amount or worth of the sponsorship deal. Nigerians also need to know the financial worth of the deal,” he noted.
Hon Gaiya equally spoke on the directive of his committee not to return the money NFF allegedly borrowed from the Federal Government, warning that though the federation had appealed they would want to get the consent of the Presidency before obeying the order, his committee was however, watching to know what happens next..post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com
His words: “The last they came for defence, I told them pointblank that the money cannot be returned to the coffers of the Federal Government. The money is supposed to be used to augment the budget deficit for 2015 proposal.
“However, the federation had insisted that they needed to write a letter to the Presidency to get their own consent as well. We accepted since it is the natural way of doing things. We are watching and waiting to see how the letter will be replied,” he warned.
