Senate President, Bukola Saraki, heaved a sigh of relief yesterday when
the Court of Appeal granted an accelerated hearing in his appeal
challenging his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false
assets declaration.
The appellate court, which assumed jurisdiction in the case adjourned
till October 16 for definite hearing, after listening to submissions of
counsel to Saraki, Malam Mahmoud Magaji (SAN), on the need for an
expeditious dispensation of the matter because of the urgency involved.
Saraki asked the court to stop his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal pending the determination of his appeal.
Presiding Justice of the court, Justice Moore Adumein, agreed with
Sraki’s lawyer on the need for the matter to be expeditiously
determined.
Respondents in the appeal are the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), the Code
of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), the Federal Ministry of Justice and Mr.
Musiliu Hassan, a lawyer in the ministry.
