Enyimba International yesterday walloped FC IfeanyiUbah 4-0 to open a
four-point gap from second placed Warri Wolves on the Glo Premier League
log with 11 games to go in the current season.
Striker Peter Onyekachi put the People’s Elephant in front in 19
minutes, while Andrew Abalogu doubled the lead in the 28th minute to
give the home side a comfortable 2-0 scores at half time.
Ezekiel Bassey and Rasaq Aliyu completed the routing of the Dan
Amokachi-tutored FC IfeanyiUbah also known as Anambra Warriors in the
second half. Bassey made it 3-0 in the 81st minute while Aliyu added one
four minutes to place Enyimba on a comfortable run for its seventh
league title.
In Akure, Sunshine Stars failed to win at home for the first time this
season as Heartland FC of Owerri held them to a barren draw to run away
with a vital away point. The Akure stars had humiliated Heartland 3-0 at
the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri in the first stanza of the season.
With the result, Sunshine had dropped to the third position with 47
points after 27 matches. Enyimba and Warii Wolves are first and second
on the log with 52 and 48 points respectively.
In the other mid-week games decided yesterday, defending champions, Kano
Pillars, defeated Kwara United 1-0, Abia Warriors won Nasarawa United
by the same scores while FC Taraba beat Sharks 2-0. The game between
Akwa United and El Kanemi Warriors at the Champions Nest in Uyo ended
1-1, same as the encounter with Bayelsa United and FC Giwa at the Oghara
Stadium in Delta State, Enugu Rangers defeated Wikki Tourists 2-0 while
Lobi Stars beat Dolphins 1-0 at the Aper Aku Stadium I Makurdi.
