Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Tactical Air Command, AVM Adeniyi Ojuawo has assured that the Military is winning the war against terrorism with its latest offensive at  routing out the Boko Haram insurgency in the North eastern part of the country.
Ojuawo gave this assurance in a chat with newsmen at the weekend in Makurdi during the Annual Ten Kilometer Walk/Jog 2015 for Officers, Airmen and Airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force.
“What is emanating from the North east from where I just came last Thursday is that we are winning the war against terrorism. The situation is  that the tide has changed and the Boko Haram guys are on the run now. And we are pursuing them to wherever they are running to. We want to search them out in all the nooks and crannies and make sure we eradicate this stupidity that is plaguing our country.”
The AOC, who also assured Nigerians that suicide bombing which seems to be the last straw that the insurgents were holding unto, would soon become a thing of the past as the military has now got the requisite training to counter such war.
“Suicide bombing, for me is going to be a thing of the past in this country. The reason is that if you look at the trend in the past, it used to be an everyday affair.
“But now, we hear of it maybe once a week or once in two weeks. It is going down. Moreover, insurgency is public driven and we have to seek the sympathy of the public.
“Right now, the military is getting the sympathy of the public and we are winning the war.”
He said even though the Nigerian Military, like every other Military world over, cannot get all the logistics its needs to fight terrorism, it now has adequate logistics to counter terrorism in the country.
“We cannot get all the logistics we need. It is not possible. Even in America and everywhere in the world, you can’t get all the logistics you need. But what we have now is adequate to take care of the war we are experiencing. We want the public to be patient with the military. We will get there but it might take sometime.”
“It will take some time because they are embedded in the people and you want to be sure that you don’t cause colossal damage. These are your own people and you don’t have to kill them indiscriminately. You have to fish out the murder target and it’s difficult to do that in this kind of situation. But we ar seeking them out and gradually we are getting over it.”
Earlier in a remark at the event, the state Governor, Samuel Ortom who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lawrence Onoja (Jr.) congratulated the Military for the fight against the insurgency going on in the north east and assured of the complete support of his administration to the military.
