IT lived up to its billing as Lagos city-wide
crusade as massive crowds came out to be part of it everywhere it held.
For instance, thousands of people comprising men, women and children,
thronged the specious compound of Oke-Afa Comprehensive College, Jakande
Estate, Lagos, on Sunday, September 13, to participate in the edition.
The Lagos city-wide crusade was organised by the Deeper Christian Life
Ministry, in conjunction with Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and
Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
The City-wide crusade which kicked off on September 8, at Nigeria
Police College, Ikeja, has seen Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General
Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church preaching, in the first
phase, to a similar massive crowd at Caleb International College,
Ikosi, Ketu (September 9), Gbagada Roundabout, Lagos (September 10),
Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu (September 11) and International Trade
Fair Complex, FESTAC (September 12). The one held last Sunday at Jakande
Estate marked the last religious crusade fixture of the first phase.
Our correspondent was told that the second phase had since commenced
with another crusade held on Tuesday, September 15, at Unity/Cardoso
Primary School, Ajegunle, and on Wednesday, September 16, at Abesan High
School Jakande Estate, Ipaja. This phase is expected to be rounded off
with another crusade to be held on Sunday, September 20 at the Yaba
College of Technology, Lagos.
It was gathered that one remarkable feature of the crusade was the
close cooperation between Deeper Life Bible Church and other Christian
churches drawn from the CAN and PFN folds, something which has been
highly commended by other Christian leaders. Christian ministers and
leaders from outside Deeper Life, attended the crusade held last Sunday
at Oke-Afa Comprehensive College, Jakande Estate. They included
Archbishop (Dr.) Peter Fabusoro, the presiding archbishop at The
Salvation Church of the Lord International, Jakande Estate; the CAN
Chairman, Isolo, Ejigbo/ Oshodi Province, Apostle Dr. Jonathan Aigbomian
of Hopeline Christian Assembly International and Vice Chairman, CAN
Ejigbo LCDA, Pastor Sunday N. Okon, of El-Shalom Evangelistic Mission
and CAN Caroline District. Others were Pastor Stephen Ilesanmi, General
Overseer, Rock of Ages Gospel Church and CAN Chairman, Jakande and
Bungalow District, Apostle Dr. Joel. C. Joel, Senior Pastor Access to
Christ Assembly Incorporation, and Director, Inter-relation, PFN, Ejigbo
Central, Rev. and Mrs. Isaac O.A. Olaomo, of Christ Power Baptist
Church, Ejigbo and Pastor Isaac Tayo Jimoh, of Christ Light Gospel
Network Ministry International, Egan, Igando, Lagos. Others in
attendance were Evangelist King James Akinsola, Branch Pastor, Christian
Fellowship, Ejigbo LCDA and Rev. Dr. M.U. George, The Seed of Faith
Tabernacle, Orioke, to mention a few.
Extolling the Christian unity witnessed between Deeper Life and other
religious denominations during the crusade, shortly before Pastor
Kumuyi came up to give his message, Archbishop Fabusoro, said: “This is
what we have been expecting. Jesus, in the last request He made to His
Father before He went to the cross, prayed for the unity of the church.
That’s why I see this crusade as a memorable one as it has served to
bring all of us together in fulfillment of Christ’s expectation of His
church. I want something like this to continue. God is using this
crusade to bring His church together and with this unity we can move
mountains. Let us be one because Jesus Christ and His Father are one.
So, I congratulate everyone that is present at this crusade today. I
believe if we will continue with this Lagos-wide city crusade, by the
end of September, Lagos will never remain the same,” he said. Pastor
Johnson Ajibade, one of the Group Pastors of Deeper Life Bible Church,
had, earlier, expressed similar sentiments while welcoming participants
to the crusade.
Shortly after Archbishop Fabusoro’s admonition, the Deeper Life
Bible Church choir came up on the stage to minister to the marmot crowd.
Earlier, members of the choir’s music orchestra and the Nigeria Police
Band had played and sung sonorous Christian choruses and soulful tunes
in which the audience actively participated by singing and dancing
along with them, to get their hearts attuned and prepared for the
evening’s ministration.
Pastor Kumuyi, who had, before he came to the pulpit to deliver his
message been introduced in glowing terms by Pastor Peter Okiti, another
Group Pastor from Deeper Life, as a “distinguished academic,
First-Class mathematician, prince of preachers, teacher of teachers,
pastor of pastors and apostle of this generation,” did not disappoint
the participants’ expectation as he spoke on the message “Celebrating
Satan’s Defeat.”
Drawing inferences from Bible verses like Exodus 15:1,2; 5: 6, 11,18;
John 12:30,31; Luke 10:17, 18 and Hebrews 2:14,15, Kumuyi announced
that Satan had and could be defeated in the body, soul and mind of
anybody who surrendered their lives to Christ. “Just as Moses told
Pharaoh that he had no choice but to let the children of Israel go, I
came to tell Satan, your oppressor that he has no choice but to release
you from every bondage of sin, sickness and satanic attacks. And end
has come for the problem that is greater than your strength and
challenges that are greater than your plans. Satan is defeated and you
are free. It is time to celebrate your victory. Like Joseph, you are not
meant for the prison but for the palace. And, if you have been in
prison, your story is going to have from-the-prison-to-the-palace end.”
that are greater than your
The message which was divided into three sub-topics, namely: “The
Declaration of Our Saviour’s Victory,” “The Deliverance of Satan’s
Victims and “The Decision of Sinners’ Vindication,” had Pastor Kumuyi
declaring, under the first sub-topic, that when the Saviour said on the
cross that “it is finished, it marked the end of satanic interference in
our lives, in whatever guise – sin, sickness and satanic oppressions
and attacks.” In the second sub-topic, he talked about deliverance for
anybody who felt they had been a victim of satanic manipulation and
attacks and, in the third point, the need for every seeker to repent
from sin and enslaving habits.
At the end of the message, thousands rushed out to the front like
honey bees to pray and surrender their lives to Christ as he gave an
altar call. After that, he prayed for the sick and the afflicted and
many participants confessed to being healed of their ailments after the
prayers. They include Mrs. Funmilayo Adedapo who testified to have been
cured of cataract, Mr. Emmanuel Okeokpen who said he couldn’t read tiny
letters because of short-sightedness, something he had suffered for 23
years but who said he was able to do so after the prayers by the man of
God and Mrs. Evans Glory said before the crusade, she was unable to see
with her left eyes since 2003 but thereafter she could see. Others
include Princewill Stephen, from Christ Apostolic Church, who was healed
of a lump that used to be on his neck, Mrs. Victoria Abiodun who was
also healed of a lump on her left breast and Mr. Ikechukwu Manafa who
was healed of severe pain from a broken bone he sustained in a
motorcycle accident.
