Former President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo and Chairman of Anambra Elders Council, Dr. Dozie Ikedife has urged the Igbo to remain calm and not to over react to the recent appointments of President Muhammadu Buhari.Ikedife said Buhari should not abuse the confidence and respect Nigerians have for him while distributing his appointments.

Dr. Ikedife, in Nnewi, yesterday, said Buhari should see himself as the President of all Nigerians both the good, the bad and the ugly. He was of the view that the President should use what he described as the period of honeymoon to enlarge the scope of confidence and respect Nigerians had for him and advised him not to abuse it.
The elder statesman generally advised that all public office holders whether a president, governor or council chairman should govern with even-handedness without favouring any section on the basis of political, economic, religious or ethnic divide. He advised Ndigbo to hold their peace until the next round of appointment was made “by then we will either ventilate our anger or thank him for allowing equity and fairness to govern his appointment.
“Let him be careful the way he distributes appointments because Nigerians are watching, calculating and keeping records. I respect him a lot for his rectitude but he should not think that he is an Angel and every other person is a demon. He can make mistakes,” Ikedife noted.
On President Buhari’s war against corruption, Dr. Ikedife said he believed that the President was the best person for the fight, adding that he did not see any other person who could do it better. He said many people had that confidence in President Buhari, who he said was altruistic.
For the probe of his predecessor, former President Goodluck Jonathan,  Ikedife said he saw nothing wrong with that as some people said it was witch-hunting. He said Buhari should not go beyond his immediate predecessor, who he said had the opportunity to have probed his own predecessor. “If someone has no skeleton in his cupboard, he should not be afraid of probe. If President Buhari must probe beyond Jonathan, that is he will even start from the pre-colonial administration and one would get lost on his way. He is in order to start from Jonathan because he must reasonably start from somewhere,” Dr. Ikedife concluded.
