Traditional rulers in Delta State have urged the state government and
the security agencies to beam their search light on the traditional
institution with a view to weeding out fake traditional rulers from the
royal fold. The monarchs under the aegis of Delta State Traditional Rulers’
Council expressed concern over the growing incidences of self-styled
royal fathers who are not recognized by the state government.
In a communique issued at the end of the council’s meeting in Asaba,
the traditional rulers also warned those parading themselves as monarchs
without government recognition to desist from the act.
The council also advised traditional rulers in the state to desist
from indiscriminate conferment of chieftaincy titles on persons who do
not merit them.
The communique which was presented by the first vice chairman of the
council and Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, appealed to
government and security agencies to take urgent steps to call the erring
traditional rulers to order.
They reaffirmed their commitment to the promotion of peace in their
kingdoms, saying that the activities of persons yet to be recognized by
government, as traditional rulers were capable of causing a breach of
the peace in the state.
They drew the attention of government to the Traditional Rulers
Edict, adding that the traditional institution was well recognized and
highly revered by all.
The monarchs described the present administration in the state as a
purposeful government determined to deliver on its campaign promises to
the people and pledged their support for the policies and programmes of
the state.
