Two persons were feared dead yesterday, when an unlatched container fell
on a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) at Ojuelegba on Ikorodu road in
Lagos. The container smashed the vehicle beyond repairs.
It was gathered that the container which was being conveyed by a heavy-
duty truck, overturned on the Ojuelegba bridge and fell to the ground.
Sources stated that, while trying to escape from the falling container,
the car was caught in the melee which ensued, and it was crushed.
It took the combined effort of the personnel the Federal Fire Service,
whose office is located near Ojuelegba and passers-by to evacuate the
container.
Spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),
Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident, but said there was, “just one
occupant in the black SUV.”
He stated that other rescue agencies, that ought to have assisted NEMA
in coordinating rescue operations were trapped in the consequent traffic
jam.
