Expdonaloaded News; HURIWA petitions army chief, National Assembly over attacks on traders

Few days after raising the alarm over alleged premeditated attacks by a combined team of security agencies, including soldiers, on innocent bystanders at Ariaria International Market in Aba, Abia State on July 30, a civil society group, Human Rights Writers Association Of Nigeria (HURIWA) has sent a petition to the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai, demanding identification and prosecution of the errant soldiers.
In the letter, which was sent to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRM) in Abuja,  HURIWA) threatened to take the matter to the United Nations Human Rights Council and the International Criminal Court in The Hague in Netherlands.
If after seven days no transparent action was taken to investigate the alleged attacks on Aba traders.
In the letter signed by the Founding National Coordinator of HURIWA, Emmanuel Onwubiko, the rights group described the alleged attacks on unarmed traders as reprehensible and despicable. It urged the government to end violent attacks by armed security operatives on innocent citizens.
