Team Manager of Go-Round FC, Soni Uboh, has raised the alarm over what he alleged as plan to give Ikorodu United Football Club, Lagos, undue advantage in the race for the sole promotion ticket in Group B1.
Uboh, who raised the alarm in a telephone call, wondered why the Nigeria National League (NNL) has not made official pronouncement on the fate of Bussdor United Football Club of Owerri and the implication of the club’s failure to honour two league fixtures in ongoing season.
Bussdor was walked over by Crown FC of Ogbomoso and Ekiti United in NNL Weeks 10 and 11 fixtures respectively, and stood automatically relegated while all points accruing from fixtures involving the team all through the season should be deducted from the league table according to the NNL rules.
“NNL rule says when a club fails to honour two matches in the season, it is automatically relegated and all the points accruing from matches involving the club would be deducted. Bussdor United was walked over by Crown FC and Ekiti United in Weeks 10 and 11 respectively and one expects that the rules should be applied,” Uboh said.
“I believe in the rule of law. My club will be the biggest loser when the NNL deducts points from matches involving Bussdor, but I wouldn’t’ mind provided the law takes its course.
“But one wonders why the latest official table released by the NNL failed to reflect the deduction of points accruing from matches involving Bussdor in line with the rules.”
Instead, the latest table tends to confirm purported plan to have Bussdor United host Ikorodu United in the next fixtures when Bussdor ought to have been automatically relegated. Should the match be allowed to go on, it would give undue advantage to Ikorodu United in the race for promotion in Group B1,” Uboh alleged.
“The NNL must address the matter before the next round of league matches. The law guiding the competition should be applied without fear or favour, in the interest of fairness and for the good of the game,” the Go-Round FC’s Team Manager insisted.
