A 36-year-old man, Mr. Emmanuel Egwuatu, has been shot dead by gunmen
along Eziokpor Road, Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta
State.
Egwuatu was said to be waiting for a mechanic he had invited to fix his
Honda Accord car with registration number AKD 382 AA when his
assailants, who allegedly operated on a motorcycle appeared from the
blues and opened fire on him.
Detectives from Obiaruku Divisional Police Station, who stormed the
scene after the murder report, was lodged at the station, have deposited
his corpse at the mortuary for autopsy.
Already, one Festus (surname withheld) has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder.
Okenedu (33) and another, now at large, were said to have also robbed
one Abanum Julius of his army green Toyota Camry car, with registration
number BKW 892 AR at gunpoint at the parking lot of Winners Church in
Obiaruku.
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the Public Relations Officer of
Delta State Police Command, Celestina Kalu (DSP), said an automobile
electrician in the community provided the link that led to the arrest
having heard about the snatched Toyota Camry car.
Kalu said: “The auto electrician informed detectives that two young men
he could identify if seen took him to fix a faulty army green Toyota
Camry car at a lonely spot along Obiaruku/Utagba-Unor road, close to
Ebedei village.
“The informant further disclosed that the young men, who could not
immediately pay for his workmanship, pledged a handset, promising to pay
him later and collect their handset. Based on the information,
detectives mounted surveillance and later arrested Okenedu, when he came
back to collect the handset from the electrician, while his accomplice
escaped.
“One black bag containing one laptop, some documents, Bible and
Christian tracts were recovered from the suspect. Information obtained
from the laptop revealed that the recovered laptop belonged to Mr.
Egwuatu, who was killed the previous night by unknown person(s).”
The police spokesman said the suspect was helping detectives in
investigating the two incidents, adding that efforts had been
intensified to track down the fleeing suspect and recover the snatched
car.
