He, however, pledged that the nation would not bow to the insurgents.Dogara, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Adamu Hassan, said the motive of the terrorist was to instill fear in the minds of Nigerians.
He condemned yesterday’s bomb attack on worshippers in a church in Potiskum, Yobe State, describing it as “barbaric, inhuman and wicked.”
The Speaker said he was deeply worried over the “new dimension” of mass murder by Boko Haram insurgents in recent days.
He urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the capacity of the state and its security apparatus to subdue the insurgents and bring the violence to an end.
Dogara insisted that by embarking on mass killing and destruction of communities, the terrorists intended to create fear and weaken the people’s faith and trust in the state.
The speaker pledged that the nation would not succumb to the new dimension of terrorism, assuring: “We shall overcome.”
He added: “I want to use this medium to call on all men and women of faith, Christians and Muslims alike, to intensify prayers to God as Nigeria is in dire need of divine intervention from the Almighty God to overcome. With God on our side, there is no challenge that is insurmountable. I have strong conviction in my heart that this, too, shall pass away.”
He praised the efforts of the officers and men of the military and other security agencies at the battle front, urging them “not to cave in to terrorism.” He said their “sacrifice (s) shall not go unrewarded by the Nigerian state.”
Dogara assured that the National Assembly, especially the House of Representatives, would continue to give all the necessary support and cooperation to President Muhammadu Buhari to equip the military with advanced military hardware needed to combat terrorism and other forms of internal aggression.
