As Nigerians search for the true killer of Benson Ogedegbe, the head of vigilante group in Oghara, Ethiope West LGA of Delta State, a highly placed security source has debunked the rumour that he was executed by military men, with 19th battalion commander, Lt. Colonel Aminu Umar, in the eye of the storm. Investigative reports revealed that contrary to what some media houses reported that Lieutenant Colonel Aminu Umar was called by the alleged Army killer of Ogedegbe,
Umar was not aware of the movement of any soldiers outside their base for such heinous crime. The 19th battalion, according to sources, has been the thorn in the flesh of criminals and oil bunkerers parading the Koko waterways and destroying drums of illegal gotten crude oil by setting them ablaze. When our team of reporters visited the Oghara police station, one of them who did not want his name in print revealed that Benson Ogedegbe may have been killed by criminals who he and his vigilante group stopped from operating in the region. “We believe that the boys who killed Benson are criminals who wore army uniforms, probably thinking that they could kidnap him if they accosted him in soldiers’ uniforms. If you check where he was shot, under the abdomen; security officials rarely shoot that area. Most times, they shoot criminals directly in the head or chest and they won’t do so on broad daylight like you people are reporting,” the source explained.
