The suspected cultists, according to eyewitnesses, were on a reprisal mission following the killing of one of them in the area a few weeks ago. They invaded the estate belonging to the late Dr. Alexander Gaadi at about 1 a.m., bathed the whole premises with fuel and lit a match while occupants were asleep. However, no life was lost in both incidents. The over 50 occupants of the estate escaped with some of them sustaining injuries, but they could not pack their belongings before the whole premises was engulfed in the inferno. Also, residents of Adeke started ran for their lives that night with some carrying their children through bush paths to safer havens in town. When Expdonaloaded Blog visited Gaadi Estate yesterday morning, smoke from the razed estate enveloped the area, while the hitherto occupants of the estate and sympathisers were seen in groups discussing the matter. Also, Adeke community ,which houses the Mobile Police Barracks in Makurdi, had remained calm after the shooting spree which lasted for over two hours.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com.. Expdonaloaded blog gathered that the police immediately responded to calls made by Adeke residents, who were trapped in their homes following the incident but it was not clear at the time of filing this report, who the gunmen were. Some said they were Fulani herders, while others claimed they were members of a Tiv rival group, who were fighting the locals in the area. Contacted, Commissioner of Police in the state, Hyacinth Dagala, stated that there was a squabble between the Tiv locals and some Fulani herders in the area on Tuesday afternoon. “You know there was a problem in that area between Fulanis and the Tivs yesterday (Tuesday). The police even waded into the matter but it is likely that the attack may be because of that incident. For now, we don’t know who is responsible but my men are already there to maintain peace and I can assure you that the place is calm now,” he said. A resident of Gaadi area said the Gaadi Estate attack was a reprisal triggered by the killing of a member of a rival cult group whose wake keep was ongoing at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, younger brother of Gaadi, who is now the landlord of the estate, Mr. Davien Aondongu Gaadi, said his family members were asleep when the suspected cultists invaded the estate. He denied the allegation that a member of the family staying in one of the apartments in the estate was a member of a cult group. Gaadi, who disclosed that he had since reported the incident to the E Division police station, Akpehe in Makurdii, posited that members of the family were taken unawares by the invasion and claimed that property worth millions of naira as well as cash were destroyed in the inferno. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Austin Ezeani, confirmed the incident, saying it was a reprisal attack by a rival cult group. The PPRO disclosed that one person had been arrested in connection with the burning of the estate. He said investigation revealed that the gang was after the cultist that they suspected partook in the killing of one of their members.
