Expdonaloaded News; Ayade seeks death penalty for convicted kidnappers

Worried by in­cessant cases of kidnap­ping, Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has sent an executive bill to the state House of Assembly seeking death penalty for convicted kidnappers in the state.The bill also seeks to em­power the state to seize prop­erty belonging to convicted kidnappers and other crimi­nals in the state.


In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Ita, he said the bill became neces­sary to enable the administra­tion tackle the issue of kidnap­ping and other criminal cases in the state.
Reacting, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, John Gaul Lebo, said: “Kidnapping is already a criminal offence in the Criminal Code and that once the Bill is transmitted to the legislature they will only amend it to accommodate death penalty as requested by the governor.”
