It also asked for a level playing field from the present administration in the state.
The group made the demands recently at a joint interactive session held in Lagos.
It urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to marginalise Ndigbo, but should share the available appointive positions in a way that no ethnic group, especially Ndigbo would be denied of their rights and privileges.
Chairman on the occasion, Chief Guy Ikokwu, said for the sake of equity and justice, Ndigbo must be carried along, saying anything short of that would be interpreted to be war against them.
“We have been hearing that Ndigbo may not likely get any appointment in the government of Buhari because we did not vote massively for All Progressives Congress (APC). But I am sure that is rumour because it has never happened. We deserve equal right. After all, one does not need to be politician to get a federal appointment,” he said.
Ikokwu, who is the Life Patron of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, pointed out that for the country to move forward, there was an urgent need for total restructuring.
“Let the country be restructured so that all zones would work for their development. And, I am sure that no matter the circumstances, Ndigbo will forge ahead.”
Ikokwu further demanded that one more state be created for the South-East zone for them to meet up with other geo-political zones in the country that have at least six states each. “For the purpose of equity, Ndigbo need another state and that is not negotiable. We will not stop this agitation because it is an obvious marginalisation that will not ensure peace and progress in the country.”
President General of Igbo speaking community in Lagos, Chief Ebere Ubani, stated that the Igbo should not be crucified because many of them voted for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last elections.
Ubani asked APC National Auditor, Chief George Moghalu, to remind President Buhari that he did not do anything for the Igbo in his tenure as head of state.
His words: “He should not allow that to happen again this time around. He should not abandon us because we did not give him massive votes. All we are saying is that the distribution of the nation’s wealth and positions should be done accordingly in the interest of peace, stability and unity of the country.”
Convener of the forum, Chief Gabby Dimude, said the Igbo were the engine room of the nation’s economy and therefore should not be left out in any affairs of the country.
The National Leader of Ndigbo Dum, Igwe Amobi Henry Moghalu, ‘Ikpa Nnewi’ also noted that the interest of Ndigbo could not be toiled with in the present administration despite the outcome of the elections and urged the present administrations in Lagos State and Federal level to carry Ndigbo along in the interest of unity of the country.
He stressed the need for all Igbo to be united in order to face the challenges ahead
Former chairman of the defunct Hallmark Bank Chief Marc Wabara, also noted that the Igbo could not be ignored in the scheme of things both in Lagos and at the federal level.
“Igbo voted out of their conscience like others in the last election and that should not be used against them. Because we have character and commitment, we always like to do the right thing,” he said.
