Expdonaloaded News; Gaul-Lebo emerges Speaker of Cross River Assembly

LEBOMembers of Cross River State House of Assembly have elected Mr. John Gaul-Lebo, member representing Abi State Constituency, as their speaker.
Mr. William Eteng, representing Yakurr II State Constituency, nominated Gaul-Lebo, while Mr. Peter Odey, representing Ogoja State Constituency, seconded his nomination during the inauguration of the Assembly yesterday.

His nomination was unanimously accepted by other members of the House, as there was no second nomination. Mr. Joseph Bassey, representing Calabar South II State Constituency, was also elected unopposed as the deputy speaker of the Assembly.
The Clerk of the House, Mr. Bassey Ekpeyong, administered the oath of office on the speaker and the deputy.
Also, Mr. Moses Ocheche, representing Obanliku State Constituency was elected the leader of the Assembly, while Mr. Ephraim Okon, representing Calabar South I, was elected the chief whip.
Responding, the new Speaker, Gaul-Lebo, said leadership was a privilege to serve. He pledged to work in harmony with other members of the House to move the state forward.
The 25-member House is totally made up of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members. Nine of the members are second-term lawmakers, while 16 were inaugurated for the first term.
Earlier in his speech, Deputy Governor of the state, Prof. Ivara Esu, urged the lawmakers to make laws that would advance the economic growth of the state.
Esu also charged them to be pro-active in their oversight functions and not to betray the mandate given to them by their constituents.
