When Millie Jackson sang the hit song, Love is a Dangerous game, in the early 1980s maybe she had in mind, the bizarre drama in the Federal Capital Territory, last week.
Once upon a time, there were three persons; two cops and a lady that
shared something in common. That common denominator was love or maybe,
infatuation. Last week, the game ended but on a tragic note. One of the
actors, a policeman, decided that since the game was not going his way,
spilling of blood had to settle the deal. At last, he made good his
intent by getting himself a loaded gun with which he pumped hot lead
into the bodies of his colleague, the lady they fought to possess and
later himself. His targets and aims were accurate as he succeeded in
ending the lives of himself and the other two on account of his love for
the lady.
The bloody incident occurred at the CBN Junction, along the
Karu-Jikwoyi Road in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) last
Thursday.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com
Like a scene in an action movie, an enraged jealous lover police
corporal aimed his AK-47 gun, pulled the trigger and pumped hot bullets
into the bodies of his colleague on duty and that of a lady recharge
card seller, leaving them dead instantly before killing himself with the
same gun.
The corporal, a family man with the Karu police station, according to
sources, was said to be in love with the pretty recharge card seller,
Chidima Okonji, a single mother from Imo State and had allegedly
invested much on her, only to discover that his senior colleague on
duty, an Inspector, was encroaching into his territory.
The dead officers who are familiar faces at the busy CBN junction
were on duty when the incident occurred. Residents of the area who spoke
with Abuja Metro expressed shock at the tragic event wondering how the
cops who had close working relationship would end their lives in that
manner.
According to eyewitness account, an argument ensued between the
police corporal and his senior colleague over who actually, was dating
the pretty female recharge card seller.
A male recharge seller who witnessed the incident at close range told
Abuja Metro that the corporal, who claimed to have invested much in the
lady, by paying for her accommodation, emerged from the container used
by the police as a make-shift office and saw the Inspector and Chidinma
sitting together over some bottles of soft drinks.
“He crossed over to meet them. Then an argument ensued between them.
While he accused the inspector of encroaching into his territory, he
accused the lady of unfaithfulness, arguing that with the much he had
spent on her in the past, he should have right of sole control over her.
The inspector, who regarded the corporal’s allegation as an affront,
ordered him to leave the place immediately or get himself dealt with.
This seeming intimidation by the senior officer further enraged the
corporal who threatened that he was going to kill the recharge card
seller so that none of them would have her.
Apparently, the inspector did not take the threat lightly as he was
said to have warned the corporal not to do any thing silly or he would
have himself to blame. The corporal, still fuming with rage walked away
from the inspector and the recharge card seller.
“The corporal ran back to the container only to return with his AK47
riffle. Before anybody could comprehend his intent, he corked his gun
and started shooting. He shot the Inspector who was sitting on a blue
plastic chair and then the lady before shooting himself.”post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com
“The incident happened around 3pm and the road was dry as there was
no vehicular and human movement. I was surprised because this road used
to be very busy. The lady in question had ordered for a bottle of kunu
and the seller was taking it to her before she saw the killing and ran
away.”
The incident was said to have caused pandemonium as residents and
passers-by thronged the scene to take a glimpse of the three slain
persons lying in a pool of blood before a team of police personnel later
came and evacuated the bodies.
FCT police spokesman, ASP Anjuguri Mamzah who confirmed the incident
declined to disclose the identities of the policemen but said
investigations are on-going over the incident.
Some of the residents who spoke with Abuja Metro described the late
Chidinma as a polite struggling lady with lots of charisma who speaks
the Yoruba language fluently.
Attempts to speak with her relatives at her Orozo residence, close to
Karshi Area Council failed as her sister, Marta, a businesswoman
declined comments. The late Chidinma left behind her nine-year old son.
