Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Lagos State, Mr.
Waheed Ishola, has told politicians that they can no longer take
Nigerians for granted.
Speaking against the backdrop of the recent general elections he
noted that the electorate had now assumed the role of kings in the
democratic process.
He said unlike in the recent past, the people had shown that they knew where to pitch their tent when the need arises.
Speaking further, he attributed the development to different factors,
including sensitisation programmes embarked upon by the NOA before the
general elections.
Specifically, he disclosed that NOA went round the nooks and crannies
of Lagos State, meeting different segments of society on the need to
make the best use of their voting rights.
Ishola added that the messages, which were in different dialects also
focused on the need to vote individuals and not political parties.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com..The agency, according to him, was happy that the electorate seized
the opportunity of the polls to prove that they could no longer be taken
for granted by voting according to their conscience..Expressing support for the use of the card reader machines in future
elections based on recent experience, the NOA director stressed it had
made election results credible, despite initial challenges.
He also urged that the machines be used for local government
elections in the country, saying with the use of the card reader
machines, allegations of polls manipulation would be reduced.
Ishola, therefore, asked state electoral commissioners to cooperate
with the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to enable them secure
the machines and the voters register for the smooth conduct of the
council polls.
