No fewer than 100 persons have been allegedly killed which several
houses and farmlands and food bans burnt in an early Sunday morning
Fulani attack on four villages of Logo Local Government Area of Benue
State.
Expdonaloaded blog gathered that the Fulani gunmen invaded the area at about
4:00am on the fateful day and started shooting sporadically killing many
people who were taking refuge in refugee camps at Ukura, Gafa, Per and
Gusa villages.
Those killed in the operation which lasted for more than five hours,
according to our source included children, women and the aged most of
whom were taken refuge in the affected communities after they had been
displaced from their ancestral homes during previous Fulani attacks.
Speaking a telephone chat with Expdonaloaded blog yesterday, Senior Special
Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Chief Joseph Anawah
who is an indigene of the area while confirming the report disclosed
that the deceased victims had been buried in a mass grave.
Anawah who stated further that some of the villagers were still
missing at the time of filing this report revealed that some of the
corpses were burnt to death in their sleep.
While condemning the attack in strong terms the brutal attack and
massacre of his people in cold blood, the Governor’s aide said that the
insurgents carried out the operation with sophisticated weapons like
AK47 riffles, knifes and spears which they used in slaughtering the
peasant farmers.
He explained that thousands of people have since fled the affected
communities to neighbouring villages they considered safer and called on
the military authorities to investigate the attacks with a view to
finding out why their men who were stationed in Logo could not intervene
or arrest the attackers.
When contacted, the state Police Commissioner, Hyacinth Dagala who
confirmed the attack said four persons were confirmed killed with
several houses destroyed and wondered why some people were insinuating
that over one hundred people had been killed.
Dagala who spoke with our Correspondent on telephone said some
policemen have already been drafted to Logo and maintained that calm had
returned to affected areas.
