It was gathered that when the protesters, under the aegis of Resident Doctors Association (ARD), stormed the gate of the House of Assembly; the entrance gate was blocked to prevent movement of vehicles into and out of the premises.
The doctor, who they carried placards, sang solidarity songs to express their plight and press home their demand.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com..Addressing journalists on the reason for the protest, the President of the association, Dr. Olalekan Ajayi, described the non-payment of the salary as devastating and dehumanising..Ajayi noted that workers in the state, including the doctors, had been suffering untold hardship despite their commitment to duties and compassion for patients.
He, therefore, called on the government to pay the outstanding six month salary arrears to make life meaningful to workers in the state and in the interest of industrial harmony.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr. Akintunde Adegboye, who addressed the doctors, appealed to them to be patient, saying the state government was taking steps to ensure prompt payment of the backlog of salaries.
Adegboye added that the Assembly would direct the House Committee on Health to dialogue with members of the association to fashion out ways of resolving the issue.
