Expdonaloaded News; NCC donates ICT books to Benue Polytechnic

Nigerian-Communications-Commission-NCCNigerian Communications Commission has disclosed that Nigerian telephone subscription has increased from less than half a million lines (fixed and mobile) in the year 2000 to over 143 million lines (fixed and mobile) by the first quarter of 2015.

Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Peter Ugoh who disclosed this when he led a team of staff of the Commission to donate 87 ICT/ Telecom Engineering books to the Benue State Polytechnics, Ugbokolo yesterday revealed further that the number of telecom operators and service providers has leaped significantly within the same period.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com..He maintained that the book donation to schools was born out of the Commission’s commitment to sustain the growth in the telecoms industry adding that Nigeria can only achieve growth in telecommunications industry through quality education and willingness of the country’s undergraduates to make themselves eventually qualified to favorably compete in the global space.Ugoh said the donation of the books to the institution was in recognition of its academic excellence, educational endowment and increasing use of ICT and development of agriculture coupled with the emerging commercial ventures in Benue State as the food basket of the nation. He however lamented that Nigerian engineers and most especially young engineers have sometimes not being able to take full advantage of the growth in the industry due to non-availability of or inadequacy of relevant books and other publications.
“This development has led to a substantial demand on the available human resources and encouraging operating companies to become net importers of skilled telecoms manpower in the country,” Ugoh said and urged the school to put the books into good use for present and future students.
Responding, Rector of the institution, Prof. Hyacinth Oluma who commended the Commission for the donation however appealed to the Chairman for the provision of more ICT facilities in the school so that students can effectively use them.
