A group, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Youth Assembly,
has called on the leadership of the party to zone the position of the
national chairman of the party to Imo State in the spirit of fairness,
justice and equity.
This was just as the group had noted that the Chairman of the party’s
Board of Trustee (BoT), Governor Willie Obiano, and the current
National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, were from Anambra
State. In a statement signed by Chukwuma Okere and Chidiebere Nwosu,
chairman and secretary of the group respectively, the group stated
yesterday that it had become imperative to zone the national
chairmanship of the party to Imo State as nobody from the state had ever
occupied the position since the inception of the party.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com..The statement read in part: “We are appealing to the leadership of
the our great party to zone the position of the national chairman of the
party to Imo State in the forthcoming national convention of the
party. Currently, the Chairman of BoT of the party, which is being
occupied by Governor Obiano and the National Chairman of the party,
Chief Umeh, are from Anambra State with the exception of Chief Chekwas
Okorie, who is from Abia State and the founding national chairman of the
party.
“The time has come for a person from Imo State to lead the party
because the state has contributed immensely to the advancement of the
party since inception.”
Meanwhile, the group has appealed to all factions in APGA to bury
their differences and come together to rebuild the party in the South-
East, warning that the party may not survive another four years of
internal crisis, which it noted has already taken its toll on the party,
especially in the South-East.
