Expdonaloaded News; Fear of Buhari abandoning S’East unfounded –Hon Okeke

Okeke raphHon Raph Okeke is a member, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Congress (APC). A two-term member of the House of Representatives , Okeke was the APC Senatorial candidate for Anambra North . In 2014, he was the APC deputy governorship candidate in Anambra State. In this chat, the APC chieftain spoke on a number of issues including the place of the South East in the incoming administration of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, how the last election was won and lost and the state of affairs in the country.
Excerpts:
Most South east political leaders rejected APC and its presidential candidate, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari during the last election , are you surprised that some of them are gradually embracing him now, at least going by the number of people that have visited him in the last few weeks?
That is the shame we are talking about.
In the beginning, the Igbo man was very superior. Igbo was a superior race. When they did politics, they aligned in such a way that will benefit the Igbo and Nigeria in general. But today, emptiness has taken over the political space in our territory. Those of us in APC, led by Dr. Chris Ngige, Gov. Rochas Okorocha and Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu are there for the good of the Igbo man and the nation at large. That is why we say APC: Change, APC: Change, CHANGE: Maka Odimma ndi Igbo” (APC: for the welfare of ndi Igbo).
This is because the PDP government does not favour the Igbo at all in spite of the over 11 million votes we gave them in 2011. But our brothers in PDP will not think this way, just because of selfish interest. They deceived Ndigbo into believing that PDP and President Jonathan were the best for them. They told them all sorts of lies and we were called all sorts of names just to make sure that no Igbo man voted for Buhari. You hear names like Mallam Ralph Adamu Okeke, Alhaji Chris Ngige, Alhaji Shehu Okorocha, Mallam Izunaso, Mallam Onu, Alhaji Okey Ezea, Mallam George Abu Moghalu, etc.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com..
In Anambra, the so-called political leaders who supposed to promote national unity in the country, promoted tribalism and religious differences just because of selfishness and greed.
They brought in billions of naira from PDP-led Federal Government and APGA-led state government and teamed up and suppressed us. They used Federal might and state government to bring the army, police and INEC for the total intimidation and blackmail and lied to Ndi Igbo that Jonathan will hand over to an Igbo man after another four years. They even went as far as telling the masses that Fashola, Tinubu and Buhari deported Ndi Igbo from Lagos and that we aided them. But like we said, I was still in the East thanking those that supported me in the Senatorial and Presidential contest when I saw a group of Ndi Igbo on TV on “Courtesy Visit” to the President-Elect and they were even saying that Buhari was the best thing that has ever happened to Nigeria.
But they were the people that just finished the battle with us over Buhari. But, don’t you think it is a good thing that they are seeing Buhari so as to enable the South East to be part of the incoming government? Gen. Mohammadu Buhari does not need apologies and decampments from them in order to remember the South-East.
Look, you are talking about a serious minded man who has sacrificed everything to come back to save Nigeria. You think we are joking in APC when we say CHANGE. In any case, those three leaders of Ndigbo that led the few of us into the formation of APC – Ngige, Onu and Okorocha are capable of attracting all that the Igbo needed from the government of APC. The very respected current caretaker president of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Chief Ralph Obioha can also present Igbo problems. We know the problems of Ndigbo and we have presented it to the various meetings of APC. The Blueprint was made on how to move Nigeria forward as a serious government and President Buhari will remember the South East as part of the Nigerian nation. We are not about to form an accidental government. APC is about to form a planned government whose responsibility it is to make Nigeria a nation. Are you saying that the APC has closed its doors on PDP members, especially in the South East? No. In fact, we knew that APC will win and we knew that if we won, every Igbo politician will decamp into APC from PDP and APGA.
This is because the Igbo can hardly play opposition politics and we told this to every person that cared to listen during our campaigns. I don’t have anything against their coming. When parties were formed in 1998, almost every Igbo was in APP. It was after our first victory in PDP during Local Government Elections that they all moved to PDP. We in APC knew they would be coming. But we didn’t know it would be soon. For the PDP and APGA members who fiercely opposed Buhari’s emergence few days earlier to jump on him today, without waiting for him to be sworn in shows that they have ulterior motives, which is nothing but appointments, contracts and troubles, just selfish interest. The PDP members should allow the APC to form a government before coming in. They should allow APC to lead the implementation of this change that brought them into power.
They should by now still be in shock at the way they were defeated . Look, for the first time in the history of Nigeria, a political party has come up with an ideology.
Please call it whatever you want – ideology, document, resolution or resolve to change the way things are being done in order to save the nation from total collapse and that is the reason a party that was formed few years ago defeated a ruling party that is made of very desperate and dangerous people. Nigerians are desperate to see this change and it is only members of the APC who came up with this plan that can implement it correctly. It will be strange to accept PDP members who have no idea on how to move Nigeria forward now and probably use some of them to form the incoming government they know nothing about. PDP members should wait for the government to be formed and then they can come in and learn first. This way, what they have eaten for the past 16 years would have been digested and their stomach freed a little. We are not in APC for what to grab or what to squeeze out of Nigeria. Instead, we are in APC for what we can do for the South east and Nigeria at large. And we are lucky that the government would be led by a strong and honest man in the person of Gen. Mohammadu Buhari. It is often said that what a nation requires to be great are strong institutions and not a strong leader but you are here eulogising Buhari as a a strong leader.
Are you members of APC not getting it wrong already?
Nigeria has been so badly destroyed that it is only a strong and honest leader that can make the institutions strong. When Sanusi Lamido Sanusi became the governor of the Central Bank, he compiled the offences of most of our Banks’ MDs that soiled their hands. He compiled the list of their bank accounts and properties across the globe and forwarded it to the courts. Were you not surprised that the same Nigerian Judges of all people gave judgments that confiscated their properties and sacked them from their banks. If not for his sack by the President, Sanusi would have also exposed the most secretive institution in the history of the whole world – the NNPC.
That was a strong man in action reviving Nigerian institutions to be strong and transparent. If you don’t bring a strong leader in Nigeria, we shall be yearning for strong institutions without success forever and ever. Back to the issue of some PDP members from the South east rushing to Buhari, is it not possible that they are going to the President-elect because they know that you people may not be disposed to accepting them if they ask to join APC now? APC as a party has already been formed and elections conducted, so anybody that would want to join the party should do that through his state no matter his or her status, unless those with bad intentions.
This way you will be able to know your fellow party men, know your leaders and how they run the party. But trust some of our brothers and sisters of the South-East politicians; they will like to join from Abuja and Lagos because they see politics as business and nothing more. Especially Anambra, some of them will like to go to Abuja and tell them to anoint them as leaders of the party they want to join and will be ready to pay any amount and will then come back to their state with shoulders high to create factions – PDP style. Before you know it, they will be in courts to take over various party positions of their choice.
In APC, Anambra, we are disciplined, under the leadership of Dr. Chris Ngige, a no- nonsense decent man and a good administrator who means well for Ndi Anambra, Ndi Igbo and Nigeria at large. The likes of Ngige, Onu,El Rufai, Okorocha, Oshiomhole and Buhari are very much suited for the governance of this nation. The relative peace we are enjoying in APC Anambra today is because of the leadership qualities of Dr. Chris Ngige, otherwise what you would have seen will be like what you have in Anambra PDP where members become party candidates through the courts, where people who did not contest election but went their normal businesses on the days of elections become elected into positions of responsibilities in Nigeria through the courts.
