Chime, who arrived for the commissioning of the edifice with the Governor-elect, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, said the new building was more befitting of a governor’s office than the old structure that had only the executive chambers. The old governor’s office comprising two buildings, housing the press unit, which has already been demolished and the governor’s office proper, expected to go down today, has given way to a brand new structure with modern architectural design.According to the governor, the new building constructed by Arab Contractors, had an expansive executive chambers, press hall and unit as well as the governor’s main office and other offices in one place.Chime said he felt it would be cheaper and easier to build an edifice that was not as gigantic and palatial as the new secretariat, which would also be commissioned soon.
He said it was now up to the incoming administration to improve on or subtract from the edifice that was fully furnished.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com..He recalled that the late Ukpabi Asika started the old Lion Building Governor’s Office as an administrator of the state while the administration of Atom Nkpera completed it.He said those who ruled the state earlier, including the then Premier of the Eastern Region, the late Michael Okpara, had used the governor’s lodge as their office.Chime stated that when Asika assumed office as administrator of defunct East Central State, after the civil war, he lived in the governor’s lodge and started building the Lion Building. He, therefore, advised that the building should be used for the purpose it was erected. The Vicar General of Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Monsignor Obiora Ike, who consecrated the new building, prayed God to bless it, praising Chime for completing the edifice.
