With few days to the inauguration of the President-elect, Gen
Muhammadu Buhari, the President and founder of Port Harcourt-based Daba
Ministries International (Prophetic Embassy), Pastor Itode Iloye has
declared that the in-coming government of Gen Buhari would fulfill the
yearnings of Nigerians by entrenching good governance in the country.
The cleric who attributed Buhari’s victory to the handiwork of God urges
the president-elect to tackle corruption with all his might to retain
the trust Nigerians already places on him.
What is your take on the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari and how would Nigeria fare under his administration?
It is just like when a magazine in Port Harcourt asked me about
Buhari, I said it is only God that can stop him. Not that God told me
about him but when I see accredited voters in North East totalling
17million, South South and South East 17 million, this made me to
conclude that he would win the election.
When you look at the statistics, you would know that if the election
would be free and fair even if the whole South South and South East
gather their votes and give President Goodluck Jonathan, that won’t stop
Buhari’s victory and that was how it turned out to be.
My only concern is that going by Buhari’s integrity as a no-nonsense
person, he may step on toes of even his party members. Some of his
policies will not favour his APC counterparts and that could stir up
contentions among his party faithful. Also, because of his stance on
zero tolerance for corruption, the party may split and another party
may emerge because people that are not satisfied by his style of
governance may return to their old political party.
What are the challenges Buhari is likely to face?
Number one is the ailing economy occasioned by fall in the price of
crude oil. Already, he has sounded the warning that Nigerians should not
expect miracle and that wasn’t what he said when he was campaigning.
So, Nigerians would be waiting to see fuel drop to N45, they would want
to see every child that goes to school eat one meal a day for free.post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com..Another obstacle could be the Niger Delta problem. Gen. Buhari may
have problem when he tries to dig deep into corruption in the oil
sector. For instance, how will he handle the amnesty programme and the
ex- militant’s issue? There are some policies that he will introduce in
Niger Delta, and the boys will revolt and this could snowball into big
problem. How will he handle the boys from the creek who have fed fat
from oil theft, juicy pipeline security contracts that have been
empowered within these six years?
Remember that these boys have seen money and any policy that would
stop their ill-gotten wealth is likely to bring them in collusion with
the government of the day.
How can Buhari handle the social media issue?
He would not find it easy, He is an old man and in the next three
years, he will become more old and weak. Nigeria of 1983 is not Nigeria
of 2015. Now, there is social media, then there was nothing like that.
Now, there is press freedom, people will insult him, talk against him.
When he speaks English, people will begin to mimic him. He may not take
it and he may react the way that is not good for the media.
Is it proper for politicians to defect to other parties?
Those who cross carpet by moving to other political parties lack
principle and discipline. That is why Gen Buhari should be commended for
courageously telling defectors to remain in their party to form
credible opposition. As a politician in a particular party, they should
be able to come together and know why they failed and how to move
forward.
What is your take on the Xenophobia issue in South Africa?
I live in South Africa. My house was affected. They burnt down my
house. My two kids had to leave there to London. Now, the problems the
South Africans have is laziness. And because they are lazy, they don’t
even know what to do. They see a Nigerian person who enters the country
making rapid economic progress and they are not happy. I see them as
confused people who failed to make the hay when the sun shines and
today, they are looking for a scapegoat.
While they lazy about, the White have almost 90 per cent of the land;
China is holding their economy. All the big shops are owned by Chinese,
Lebanese and Pakistanis and some Germans own the construction industry.
Some of those whites are holding the economy and you are fighting your
black brother that just entered the country to hustle, saying they are
taking your job, which job are they taking? Are the black foreigners
the ones to get job for their citizens or their government? Instead of
them to hold their government for impoverishing them, they are now
turning their aggression on innocent black Africans.
