Two
gunmen were killed and one security guard was injured Sunday outside
the school premises where a “Draw Muhammad” contest was being conducted
by a free speech group in Garland, Texas.
According to NBC,
the gunmen shot at the guard as the event was ending at 8 p.m (ET).
Officers at the event, who were heavily-armed, opened fire on the
attackers, killing them.
The area was subsequently evacuated, and the over 200 participants were taken out of the venue via buses.
Reports state that the gunmen have been identified as two roommates from Arizona. One of them was named Elton Simpson, and
he had reportedly used the Twitter hashtag #TexasAttack about 30
minutes before the attack. Authorities are yet to name the second
gunman.

reports that the “Draw Muhammad” contest was billed as a free speech
event where attendees could draw the Islamic figure, with $12,500 going
to the winner.” Albanian-American cartoonist Bosch Fawstin, won the competition.
